This book is designed for new interpreters who wish to become legal
interpreters, and for working interpreters who wish to prepare for certification.
The law regarding sign language interpretation has not been included, but most
of these principles apply to that field as well. Attorneys and judges will
also benefit from the practical tips and the legal information in this book.
It is hoped all readers will gain a deeper appreciation of the rich art of legal
interpretation.
Is the The Art of Legal Interpretation only useful for the state of Oregon?
Although the Appendices section of the book contains Oregon Statutes,
The Federal Court Interpreter's Act, the Office of the U.S. Courts Interim
Court Interpreter Regulations, and the Federal Court Certification and
Qualification process are also covered.
Other topics include codes of conduct, bias and conflicts of interest,
courtroom do's and dont's, certification, who pays interpreter fees, and
language proficiency.
