Write Now
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the word "Program" refer to in the title Write Now: A Complete Self-Teaching Program for Better Handwriting?
The book itself is the complete program covering everything needed to learn a legible
handwriting style. Write Now requires no special equipment - any writing
instrument will do. The Write Now book is the adult version of the Getty-Dubay
Italic Handwriting Series condensed into one volume, containing complete instructions
as well as practice exercises and tips.
What is the difference between Write Now: A complete self-teaching program for better handwriting and Italic Letters: Calligraphy and Handwriting?
Write Now concentrates more on improvement of everyday handwriting, although
there is a chapter devoted to edged pen writing. Italic Letters emphasizes some
of the more elaborate styles of italic calligraphy (Basic, Formal, Chancery, and
Cursive Italic) often used for wedding and dinner invitations, special announcements,
and more formal correspondence. It offers examples of each in both monoline (any
regular pen or pencil) and edged pen (calligraphy pen with a straight edge).
Does Portland State University offer a class for the Getty-DubayItalic?
Portland State University does not offer a scheduled class at this time, however we do
offer a free three-hour workshop once a year on the Saturday in January closest
to John Hancock's birthday.
